Access your Mac's files from anywhere on the internet.
All you need is a web browser.
Or your iPhone.
Just sit down at any computer, anywhere on the internet, open the web browser and there are the files on your Mac at home. Now you can view and download anything you want.
Even the URL is simple - here's all you need to remember:
findme.flyingmac.com/joebloggs
It's so easy you'll find yourself using it all the time.
Left your presentation at home? The panic's over.
Or maybe you just want to give a slideshow of the photos you took last night, play a colleague that song you've been talking about or show someone that short story you've been writing. Important or trivial, it's just a few clicks away, so why not!
Other solutions require you to install software on the machine you're connecting from. We think you'd rather just connect easily, from any computer, with no hassle. From work, from an internet cafe or a friend's house - no problem. Everyone has a web browser.
Just install FarFinder once, on the Mac you want to reach, and that's it.
This isn't some clunky web interface we're talking about. In fact, using FarFinder is more like using your Mac than using a web site. It's fast and familiar - it looks like the Finder, your files still have their icons and there are advanced features like a list view when you need them.
Images are handled beautifully. An automatic slideshow lets you flick through the pictures in a folder, and resizes them to fit nicely in your browser or iPhone.
It'll even magically convert Photoshop files, TIFFs and other image formats so you can view them right in the browser. (Of course, the original files are always available for download if you need them.)
If you want to access your Mac's files remotely you might be comparing FarFinder to other options. But the following combination of features sets FarFinder apart:
With FarFinder and your iPhone,
your Mac is now with you wherever you go. View your Mac's documents and images
on your iPhone, and send any file by email.
A client needs a file but you're not at your Mac? No problem - use your iPhone to browse your Mac, find the file and email it straight to the client.
Networking is hard, but FarFinder does the tough stuff for you.
You get your own, easy-to-remember URL like the one opposite. Plus, FarFinder will automatically configure many home internet connections. Where your intervention is required, it diagnoses the problem and points you in the right direction.
FarFinder's for everyone, not just for geeks. (But even geeks will appreciate its simplicity.)
Of course, you can download a file from your Mac so you can use it locally.
But FarFinder handles multiple files and even folders nicely for you as well. Just select the ones you want, click download and you'll receive a zip file containing everything you asked for. Mac attributes like icons and resources stay intact too.
You can email files without even downloading them - just click the email button, fill out the details and the files will be zipped and sent straight from your Mac.
Plus, you can send files to your Mac. Sometimes we all have to take work home with us. Using FarFinder is even easier than a USB stick.
Your files are safe. FarFinder uses a secure connection (https) to protect your information while it's in transit over the internet. That's the same protection your bank uses to protect their internet banking site. Read more about security.
You're not tied to our server.
We keep track of your Mac's address on the network so you don't have to worry about it, but this is entirely optional. As long as you know your own IP address, you can use FarFinder completely independently of flyingmac.com. So the only uptime you have to worry about is your own.
Just to save any confusion, FarFinder is for browsing, viewing, downloading, uploading and emailing files. It's not for moving them around, renaming them or deleting them.
FarFinder is not an FTP client, it's a different kind of tool. If you need all the features of FTP, you might not be in the right place.
FarFinder requires Mac OS X 10.4 upwards. Connecting computers can be Mac OS, Windows, Linux or any other OS as long as the browser requirements are met.
Connecting to FarFinder requires a modern browser. Firefox 2+, Safari 2+, Internet Explorer 6+ and Camino 1.5+ are supported.
Your Mac running FarFinder must be turned on and connected to the internet.
