When FarSuite says "No Router Found"

FarSuite automatically configures your router so your Mac is accessible from the internet. But, it can't find a router to configure.

Was FarSuite working before?

If FarSuite was working correctly before and your network setup hasn't changed, you should:

Check UPnP

UPnP is what lets FarSuite and other applications configure your router. Most modern routers have this feature, however sometimes it's turned off by default. The first thing you should do is:

Setting up your router

FarFinder has tried to change your router settings automatically, but hasn't been able to. Often, you can make the required changes yourself.

Not for everyone

These instructions involve changing your Mac's network settings and also changing the settings on your router. If this all sounds a bit much, fair enough - this sort of thing isn't everybody's cup of tea. Other options are shown below.

Having said that, no special skills are required, aside from taking your time and working through the instructions, which are quite long.

It's your network

These instructions are here to help you, but do take ownership of your network and the changes you're making. Be sure to note down the settings you're changing so you can change them back if you need to.

What's Wrong?

For FarSuite to work, you have to be able to connect from the internet to your Mac. Your router is acting as a firewall, stopping connections from getting to your Mac. We need to let connections to FarSuite get through. (This is not a security risk, but if you're worried, you can read about FarSuite's security.

Normally, FarSuite would be able to do this for you automatically. Unfortunately though, your router doesn't allow this. Please note that this is because your router is missing a feature; it is not a problem with FarSuite.
